Vlad took the floor and quickly got everyone organized. “Okay,” he started, “let’s get through this. Ellie Hawkins is the new Carnifex. Cesare got the contract, and most of you saw what she could do tonight. If you didn’t, too bad. Quillon Cappelo is staying on as the Preceptum, and everyone can get over him draining Taylor. She was planning on blowing this place up tonight anyway. I gave him the order to kill her.”

“Perhaps we should discuss their contracts, Vlad,” said Hugh.

“I just said the contracts are signed, what else do you need to know?” Vlad asked staring at him.

“What do they entail?” he smiled benignly.

“I looked them over, they were fine.” Vlad waved his hand, “Ellie stays with Cappelo. Cesare’s there too. She’s bonded and promises to investigate before she offs anyone.”

“Why is she bonded to Cesare?” asked Hugh. The guy honestly has a death wish.

“Because I said so,” ground out Vlad.

Cesare sat down and pulled me next to him, “This is about to get either really bad or really amusing,” he muttered to me. Quill remained standing, but the look on his face had gone from cold to slightly amused.

“Why do you get to decide?” pressed Hugh, “Shouldn’t it have been the council that decided.”

“Because I’m her father,” yelled Vlad, his teeth elongating and his eyes going black. “I’ll decide what’s in the best interests of my children. The only other person who had input in this was her grandfather because her mother couldn’t care less.” He spun and glared at Isole, “Or is there something you’d like to add.”

“What?” She looked up and smiled, “Oh no. I’m not the maternal type. You and Cernunnos can figure it out.”

“Well, this went bad quickly,” I muttered rubbing my head. Everyone was staring at me. “Don’t look at me, I was just as surprised when I found out my entire life was a lie,” I spit out.

“Ah, there’s the resemblance to Vlad,” I heard someone whisper. I rolled my eyes.

Vlad took a breath, “Cesare, tell me that ass is here.”

Cesare got up, pulling me with him. He looked over at Quill, “Keep her under control and don’t let her kill him.” Quill walked over and wrapped his arms around me, holding my hands in place.

“Tesora, you don’t want to hear this, but for now be calm,” I felt the words relax my body as he said them. Asshole.

Cesare left the room for a moment and a second later re-entered with Connor trailing. I tried to pull the sphere but couldn’t even feel a spark. “Calm,” Quill repeated. “Let Vlad talk to him as he’s asked.”

Vlad walked over to the bar and grabbed a bottle of gin, took a swig, then pointed at Connor. “Why was he brought back? I know you, Cesare, there is always a reason, and I’m willing to hear it.”

The other paranormals looked confused. Cesare smiled, “Technically I didn’t bring him back, Judas did. The reason was that he’ll mess up, and Ellie or Izzy should have the chance to kill him.
